Kilimanjaro – the highest point in Africa
Posted by: Philip on Jul 16, 2004 - 01:43 AM
Cape to Cape I was warned that this would probably be the hardest thing I've ever done. Well, the 6 day climb pushed me beyond all limits – physical, mental and credit card, but I reached the top on the morning of 14 July! It was a great privilege to be able to experience an incredibly beautiful – and tough – mountain. Kgale Hill in Gaborone was never like this. Temperatures went down to minus 25 degrees Celsius, the air was so thin that it had half the amount of oxygen compared to sea level and almost everyone suffered the effects of Mountain Sickness (headache, nausea, vomiting – basically like a very bad hangover). At one stage I thought I was going to die; at another stage that would have been a merciful release!
